6 tips for students of two majors

After dozens of sleepless nights, hundreds of hair torn out under stress and a million questions to annoyed friends, did you finally decide to study two fields of study at the same time? The most important step is already behind you, but now you have to prepare for a long run with obstacles that awaits you during your studies.

1. Check everything

Before you decide to sign up for selected directions, check if there is a chance to connect them. Start by browsing the online forums on the university website, maybe students describe the most difficult semesters or help estimate the time spent on learning. Find study programs, and if there is such a chance, also schedules of classes of individual yearbooks, which will allow you to determine the usual time of classes. Sometimes they are more often the morning hours, other times the afternoon. It also happens that the later stage of studies, the better the schedule of classes, which means no breaks between individual subjects and free days. It is also worth checking which classes you must attend and which you can skip a few times, which will certainly inform other students. The better you prepare, the less challenging it will be for you to adapt two class schedules to yourself. If you choose directions at one university and the same faculty, you will have no logistical problems and many items may be repeated. It is also extremely important when you start a new direction. The first year implemented simultaneously in two places will be a heavy burden for you, especially since it will be your duty to submit two diploma theses at the same time. For this reason, most students start a new direction when they finish their first year in the home direction. Take into account the various options - if you can not reconcile two majors on full-time or part-time studies, and you care a lot about both, check the offer of evening or postgraduate courses in the same thematic range.

2. Save

By studying two majors, you will become a great manager, even if you do not study management. You must not only be in class, but also know everything. The ability to organize time is the most important predisposition that you must have. Remember that you still can not teleport - take into account the time needed to get to classes. Nobody will prepare for your classes for you, so you must also find the time to do it. A good idea is to use the calendar, whether it's paper or installed on your phone. Write everything in it: from tests and examinations to canceled classes. This will allow you to avoid mistakes related to double duties. It is also worth constantly checking university portals and student groups on social networks, where information relevant to you may appear, such as a later start time, which you can use to submit an application for IOS (Individual Organization of Studies) in the dean's office.

3. Set priorities

Certainly you will sometimes have to decide what is more important to you: first or second classes, evening rest or making a final project, better assessment or less stress, a nicer subject or a lack of long breaks between classes. Prepare yourself for some things you will have to give up. The sooner you realize this, the easier it will be for you to make a decision. Try to focus on what is most important to you, so that you do not regret that you did not have enough time for something, and certainly you will not have it in abundance. If you do not know which of the available items to choose, check how many ECTS points you get for him. Sometimes it's better to choose one more difficult object instead of focusing on going on three others, other times it's worth to let go to your favorite professor if classes at another date suits you better.

4. Plan the future

As a student of two majors, you must know that you will not be able to do everything at the last minute, especially in the case of a session. You can better manage your responsibilities over time, even if you still think that you will be able to complete everything at the end of the semester. If there is such a possibility, try to pass some items earlier (yes, we know how difficult it is). Also take into account how much time you need to learn - sometimes it is better to give up something to write the required work, read free essay writing samples or prepare for the exam. Think about the session earlier than in February - we guarantee that it will be easier for you to go through it. Although it may still seem funny to you, come back to the calendar idea.

5. Do not go on the easy way

Never justify yourself with the second direction. Most lecturers assume that it is your choice, so you are responsible for it. Certainly you will not have easier than other students, and the teacher's pleading for forgiveness will not do anything. Buying chocolates also. Of course, academic teachers are also people. If you know that you do not like the deadline, ask if you can take the subject before. For many lecturers, what is important is what knowledge you acquired during the semester, not the day of the week in which you enter your grade into the index. Remember, however, that it is better to propose a date earlier than the one designated. On some directions, there is also the option of choosing one of two exam dates, which gives you a lot of flexibility. An ideal option seems to be an Individual Study Organization allowing for greater freedom in attendance and the type of credit, however many universities believe that the second course is not a sufficient reason to get it, so do not assume that the dean will certainly consider your application positively.

6. Do not worry

You have twice as many duties as other students and it is a real challenge for them. Mistakes happen, but it's important that you know how to fix them. You can improve the object you have covered and the uninteresting course will change. Your grades may look worse than one direction, but getting two diplomas can make up for it. Often other students come to help, who will advise you how to prepare for classes or share your notes, but remember that no one will study for you and you have to organize your own time. Do not worry if something goes wrong and look for a solution. Despite legends circulating at universities, you can ask for help from the dean's office.

Good organization of work is the key to completing two directions without unnecessary sacrifices. However, if you do not want to give up your free time, you can start new studies only after finishing the previous ones. It is worth noting that due to changes in legal regulations, you do not have to pay an additional direction, as it was a few years ago. Studying in two directions, though free, requires a lot of work, which is why its organization is the most important thing.
