Kershaw's brilliance should begin good times for the Dodgers despite Forsythe's injury

With Kershaw’s stellar performance, the Dodgers end their first real homestand on a high note, but they place Logan Forsythe on the 10-day disabled list.

It has been well-documented the Los Angeles Dodgers have had a rough beginning to the 2018 season. It seems like when they receive good pitching; they don’t have any offense and vice versa. Dating back to August 2017, the Dodgers can’t beat the Arizona Diamondbacks during the regular season. On Sunday afternoon, everything changed, and Dodger fans everywhere hope this victory begins good times for the Dodgers.

Before Sunday’s game, the Dodgers placed Logan Forsythe with shoulder inflammation on the 10-day disabled list. Forsythe has dealt with shoulder inflammation since spring training, but on Saturday night during the fifth inning, he couldn’t endure the pain. The Dodgers had an MRI taken on Forsythe’s troublesome shoulder. The MRI revealed no structural damage.

Since Justin Turner fractured his wrist, Forsythe has played a magnificent defensive third base, except for one game in the first series against the San Francisco Giants. In Forsythe’s absence, either Kiké Hernandez or Kyle Farmer will play third base.

During Forsythe’s tenure with the Dodgers, injuries plagued him. Last year he broke his toe and pulled a hamstring. These injuries lingered last year damaging his offensive production. Hopefully, his shoulder inflammation won’t linger and hurt his offensive production for the rest of the season.

The Dodgers have had many off days, and this hurt the Dodgers. Many of their starters hadn’t had a start more than once a week or less frequent. Starters must pitch frequently to have satisfactory control.

Friday night Kenta Maeda started. Before that game, he pitched once in 13 days. During his Major-League career began in 2016, Maeda used good control to dominate his opponent. For the last year and this, he has worked being aggressive in the strike zone. Friday night against the Diamondbacks, a team that has given Maeda trouble during his career, he walked 2 and had 2 wild pitches in his 2.2 innings.

The hitters can’t find their productive swings without repetition. Although hitters take batting practice daily, it doesn’t help them to get competitive swings.

The Dodgers have scored the third least runs in the National League. However, the Dodgers have been showing signs of coming out of their collective slumps. Many baseball knowledgeable people thought both Chris Taylor and Cody Bellinger wouldn’t repeat their 2017 performances, but both hitters have performed well for the last week.

Though the Dodgers’ slow beginning to the 2018 season is a cause for concern, they should be okay unless they suffer more injuries. Clayton Kershaw’s 12-strikeout seven-inning victory should begin a long winning streak.
