The holidays and vacations provided to government employees are astonishing they will get almost double the holidays of their private counterparts. There will be fixed holidays, even optional holidays will be provided to the employees and will be given freedom to start or become a member of some labor organizations. Even most of the central government employees are eligible to avail LTC, where they are given free paid leaves for tours. The government will bear the travel expenses for the entire family during that period. It is the only sector probably where an employee has never need to argue for talking leaves or going for holidays. The job security for government is astounding, even the CEOs of private companies are not having that security as we can see in the case of Mr. Cyrus Mistry, who was fired out of the CEO position in TATA group. Most of the private jobs are badly affected by the economic fluctuations. However, the Government jobs will not be affected by any type of economic conditions. A private employee can be fired out without any reason if the management wants to get rid of him. Whereas, in the case of government job, it is almost an impossible task to remove any government employee without a big reason. Once an individual signs on the joining report for a government job, he is in for almost until his retirement. Even in most of the worst cases like bribery, the job will be retained until retirement age. However, the employee will be either suspended for few days or will be demoted or devoid of increment in case if he was found and proved to be guilty or done some fraud.

Government employees will get salary even in case they do not have to do any work due to administrative or political reasons. For example, the case of AP Transco employees in Telangana after the bifurcation of the AP state. Telangana government did not allow them to work in the Transco offices of Telangana, and AP government did not offer them jobs in the AP Transco offices. The issue went to the court, and the court gave a verdict to provide the salary until any possible permanent solution to the problem. Both the governments are paying salaries in the ratios of 51:49 to the employees and employees are receiving salaries in time without having to do any work.

Most of the government jobs will not have any targets providing a smooth and happy work environment to the employee. Even, the hikes in salary will not be based on the performance which decreases the competition between peers and promotes a healthy working environment. From the Stone Age to this 21st century “a government servant is a powerful person” notion had sustained in spite of the technical advancements. A government office is a heaven for its employees (of course nightmare to common citizens). In India, the government jobs are mainly of two types viz., central government jobs and state government jobs. Central government jobs are popular when compared with the state government jobs.
