Some people didn’t even hear about this concept and some did, but do not think it is viable themselves upon hearing about it. These facts, however, do not change this concept idea that is about to revolutionize the way we provide ourselves with clean, uncontaminated, organic food as close and as fast as we can.
Floating farms design incorporates vertical farming, hydroponics, aquaculture and renewable energy to produce year-round food. It consists of layers of mind-blowing architecture designs each important in its own way. The top of the farms is where solar energy panels are located, providing the structure with a necessary energy. There are also rainwater collectors for irrigation needs and some other important mechanics like skylight openings to provide natural light for plants among other things. Second level is the greenhouse where all the crops are located. It features a hydroponic system as a way of nurturing the plants without natural precipitation, fertile land or pesticides. It provides high yields with reduced costs and less water usage.
These gardens can also be stacked to preserve space. The bottom level contains fish farms within perimeter, water access points, storage, slaughterhouse, desalination plant and packaging facility.
These floating, productive platforms will be anchored to land in calm waters, such as marinas or lakes and as a result this high-tech project design will be flexible enough to adapt to local food production needs and can be located close to many mega-cities or densely populated areas with water access.
There are actually a few concepts about this extremely innovative idea for crops growing and fish farming, but probably the best and latest one is by Forward Thinking Architecture.
They have willingly and unselfishly presented their own plan for world’s future and it is likely the most innovative and the most productive plan to provide and produce food to people to this day.
