Newly promoted side Huddersfield come up against West Brom halfway through matchweek 11. West Brom started the season so well but have slowly been getting worse and worse. Everyone thought that they might have a terrific season after they won their first 2 games but since then they haven’t won another. Huddersfield have been a great team to watch and a team that no one can really hate. This is their first season ever in the Premier League and so far they’re absolutely smashing it. They’re currently in 13th place which isn’t all that good but when you consider their history and how strong their squad is you have to acknowledge how well they’ve done.
Huddersfield have done well so far this season considering they’re a newly promoted side who’ve never played Premier League football before. They have a few incredible players who are really interesting to watch and have put on some very strong performances. For example they beat Manchester United 2-1 after a good goal from Aaron Mooy and a bad mistake by United’s Lindelof. Huddersfield have been a bad attacking side though and have only scored 7 goals so far, 5 of which have come from 2 matches. This is something that Huddersfield have to work on if they want to continue playing well.
As always the Australian Aaron Mooy will play a massive role in this game for Huddersfield. He is such a key player for Huddersfield because of the depth of his play. He can do everything, shoot, pass, defend and he’s always there. He has there joint most goals, joint most assists, their most passes and their most tackles proving how big a player he is to them and how much he helps his side from his centre-midfielder position. If he’s on form Huddersfield is on form but if he has a bad game they’ll suffer so much from it.
Tom Ince and Goalkeeper Jonas Lossl could also be important in this game. They’ve both had decent seasons so far with a lot of talk about Lossl right now because of the good form he’s been in. I think that if these players have a good game it could help their team out but if they have a bad game it wouldn’t do the team much overall harm although, of course, it would be better if they were at their best.
West Brom have slowly gone further down the table and now they’ve gone all the way down to 15th after winning their first 2 games. Their last game was against league leaders Manchester City and they got surprisingly close to winning the game. They were able to put 2 past Ederson in the end but their defense wasn’t strong enough for the incredible Man. City attack which scored 3 goals on them. They’ve had to many ties this season which they need to be turned into wins and they need become more consistent in those situations.
Gareth Barry and Grzegorz Krychowiak could be potential stars in this game against Huddersfield because they have incredible defensive capabilities but they can both provide skill when going forward as well. They both play as defensive midfielders and if they play well together they could come up with some good passing moves. Their defence has been pretty good so far and these 2 players need to make sure that that continues if they want to have a chance in this game. Huddersfield are not a high scoring side so getting a clean sheet is important.
Two other players who could be important are Ahmed Hegazi at the back and Jay Rodriguez up front. Neither of these players have been brilliant so far but they've had a few moments when they’ve starred. Although they’ve had these moment they need to start playing more consistently if they want to make a real difference to the way their team plays.
West Brom have been in bad form recently and need to improve if they even want a tie against Huddersfield. I think that Huddersfield will pull another one of their surprise wins again here if Mooy is on form and helps out in the defense and the attack. I think Huddersfield will win here because of how West Brom have been playing lately. Huddersfield will win 2-1.
