We all make mistakes at 3 a.m., and new Chiefs wide receiver Sammy Watkins made one a couple of weeks ago that made him unrecognizable to teammates at training camp.
According to the Kansas City Star, two weeks before training camp started, Watkins was wide awake in bed and decided that it was time for a change. So in the middle of the night, he took out his clippers and went to work on the dreadlocks he's had for over a decade.
His reason for getting rid of them was that he, “kind of just wanted to be different this season and just be about business.”
I'm not sure how cutting your hair makes you take football more seriously, but to each his own. I was unaware that players with dreadlocks don't take football seriously.
As you can imagine, fans had a field day with this on social media:
Even I had to get in on the fun:
But in all seriousness, this could be a good thing for Watkins. He's got a new team, a new contract, a new attitude and a new hairdo.
The former Clemson star has only played a full 16 games once in his four seasons, and has only one 1,000-yard season.
Last year with the Los Angeles Rams, Watkins recorded 39 receptions for 593 yards and eight touchdowns.
