The Milwaukee Bucks have underachieved the past couple of seasons. They have not won a playoff series since the 2000-2001 season. Milwaukee is off to a 9-2 start to the NBA season. They destroyed the Golden State Warriors 134-111 on the road on Thursday night. Is this a sign of things to come for the Milwaukee Bucks?
It should be a sign of things to come because they are well coached by Mike Budenholzer. The Bucks have one of the best players in the world right now in Giannis Antetokounmpo. He is averaging 25.6 PPG, 12.9 RPG, 5.7 APG, 1.3 BPG, 1 SPG.
Khris Middleton is averaging 19.3 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 4.3 APG, and 1.5 SPG so far this season. Eric Blesdoe is averaging 13.9 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 6.3 APG, and 0.7 SPG so far this season. Malcolm Brogdon is averaging 13.1 PPG,
Pat Connaughton, Donte DiVincenzo, John Henson, Ersan Ilyasova, Brook Lopez, and Tony Snell are key role players on this team. They have a deep roster and it is also a talented one.
The problem with the Milwaukee Bucks over the past couple of years was scoring the basketball. This season, they are ranked second in the NBA with averaging 121.3 points per game. Milwaukee has the eighth best defense in the NBA. They haven given up 107.6 points per game so far this season.
The Bucks are currently 1.5 games back of the Toronto Raptors right now, they are two games up on the Boston Celtics, and they are 2.5 games up on the Philadelphia 76ers and the Indiana Pacers. Any of those five teams could win the east.
The Milwaukee Bucks have drafted well over the years and it was only a matter of time when it was all going to come together. Because Lebron James isn't with the Cleveland Cavaliers anymore, this opens up for the door for Giannis to make a claim as the best player in the conference.
Some will argue that title belongs to Kawhi Leonard of the Toronto Raptors, Kyrie Irving of the Boston Celtics, and Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers.
I said the Boston Celtics would win the east this season. However, Toronto and Milwaukee have been better so far this season. The Milwaukee Bucks have the talent to go to the NBA Finals one day. Whether they do or not is another story.
