Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins declared for the NFL Draft. He is 21 years old and Haskins is projected to be a Top 10 pick. He is from the state of New Jersey and Dwayne Haskins was a New York Giants fan growing up. What are the chances he plays in a Giants uniform next season?
It is all going to depend whether or not the New York Giants decide to stick with Eli Manning at the quarterback position for another season. He is 38 years old and has one more year left on his contract. General Manager David Gettleman did not commit to him as the starting quarterback next season. Gettleman is leaving all of his options out there.
If the Giants decide to move on from Eli Manning, it is very likely they draft a quarterback with the sixth overall pick. The Arizona Cardinals, the San Francisco 49ers, the New York Jets, the Oakland Raiders, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are all drafting ahead of the New York Giants and none of those teams need to draft a quarterback. That is very good news for them.
The bad news is that the Jacksonville Jaguars could try and jump New York in the draft order to snag him. Jacksonville needs a quarterback in the worst way possible. Tom Coughlin is in the Jaguars front office and he used to the coach the New York Giants. Coughlin would do everything possible to wrench the Giants plans.
Haskins completed 70 percent of his passes this past season for 4,831 yards 50 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He rushed for 108 yards on 79 carries as well. This was the right decision for him to declare for the NFL Draft. The quarterback class isn't strong this season.
When Oregon quarterback Justin Herbert decided to go back to school for another season, it was clear that Dwayne Haskins would be the number one quarterback prospect coming out of college this season. The only other quarterback that might be taken ahead of him in the NFL Draft is Daniel Jones out of Duke.
I think there is a very good chance that the New York Giants draft Dwayne Haskins this April. I don't think it is 100 percent yet they would do it, but it is going to depend on the situation with Eli Manning.
