Where do the Houston Texans Go From Here?

The Houston Texans won the AFC South with a 11-5 record during the regular season, but they were bounced from the playoffs with a 21-7 loss at home against the Indianapolis Colts in the Wild Card Round. Houston is now 1-3 in the postseason in the Bill O'Brien era. They have been horrible in all three loses.

The Texans have not been to the AFC Championship Game in franchise history. They will have to wait another season to accomplish that goal. Should the Houston Texans decide to fire Bill O'Brien? Where do they also go from here?

Houston should consider firing him, but the odds they won't. There may not be anyone better out there right now. Eight NFL teams have vacancies and any one of those eight teams would probably grab O'Brien in a second. He has won the AFC South title three times in five seasons as the coach of this team. His record as coach is 42-38. The Houston Texans will probably keep him around next season and if they don't show improvement, it is possible they might look elsewhere for a head coach.

Other than that, they have some major holes to fill this offseason. The defense is not very good. When the pass rush can't get going, Houston's defense is useless. They don't have a very good secondary and the Texans need a shutdown corner. They have been prone to giving the big play all season long. Safety Tyrann Mathieu will be a free agent and they need to find a way to re-sign him.

Houston also needs to fix the offensive line. Deshaun Watson was sacked 62 times this season. DeAndre Hopkins carried the offense in the passing game a lot this season. The Texans traded for Demaryius Thomas at the trade deadline from the Denver Broncos. He tore his Achilles in Week 16 on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles. Thomas will be a free agent at the end of the season and it is unknown whether they will re-sign him or not. They should consider it, but I am not sold on them doing it.

Rookie Keke Coutee started to play better at the end of the season. He was a fourth-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Coutee has the potential to have a breakout season next season.

The Houston Texans will have 10 draft picks in the 2019 NFL Draft.
