Is It Panic Time in Lakers Land?

Ever since the Los Angeles Lakers crushed the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day 127-101, Los Angeles's record after that game is 3-7. A lot of it has to do with the absence of Lebron James and Rajon Rondo. Is it time to panic yet in Lakers land?

There has to be some concern in Los Angeles. Losing to the Cleveland Cavaliers 101-95 at home on Sunday night is alarming because they are the worst team in the league. The Lakers face the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night at home. Chicago is also one of the worst teams in the NBA. If Los Angeles losses this game, the panic button needs to be pressed.

After this game, they will have three straight contests against current playoff teams and two of them will be on the road against the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Houston Rockets. They will face the Golden State Warriors on Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

If the season ended right now, the Los Angeles Lakers would be on the outside looking in. They are currently in ninth in the west with a 23-21 record. Los Angeles is only 0.5 games back of the Utah Jazz for the eighth spot in the west. The Lakers have the same record as the Sacramento Kings. They are only 1.5 games up on the Minnesota Timberwolves and they are only up two games on the New Orleans Pelicans.

In the absence of Lebron, Kyle Kuzma and Michael Beasley have played well. Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball have not played well at times. Head Coach Luke Walton called out Ingram and Ball during this stretch and Walton questioned their passion.

Lebron James could return as early as Thursday from his groin injury, but he could miss another week or more. This is a major alarm for the Lakers if that's the case. They can't continue to keep slipping in the standings. A lot of people predicted Los Angeles to make it to the playoffs this season. They are not ready yet to win a title and the Los Angeles Lakers expect to make big splashes in the summer of 2019. The next week or two is going to be big for this basketball team.
