Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar IV is set to headline this year’s Summerslam. Although, it has been rumored for a long time that Roman Reigns will be the one to face Brock Lesnar for The Universal Championship at Summerslam this year, yet some fans were still hoping that we would get to see Lashley vs. Lesnar. Well, whether one likes it or not, Roman Reigns will face Brock Lesnar at Summerslam one more time as Reigns beat Lashley on Raw to earn that opportunity. Many anti-Roman fans are planning to sabotage the main event by walking out of the match before it starts while the remaining ones will just disrespect both men by booing them or chanting “boring” or anything that will make their voices heard. Well, nobody has to disrespect anyone, leave the arena or switch off the channels because this match has all the tools to be called as The “Main Event” if you think neutrally. Here we will discuss why you should be looking forward to Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar IV.
One of the things lacking in WWE today is long-term booking. Most of the feuds these days are settled within a month or two and therefore, such stories become forgettable due to the lack of depth and little build-up. Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar is a rivalry which has been going for more than 3 years. It started when Reigns won the Royal Rumble in 2015. Their match at Wrestlemania 31 was interrupted by Seth Rollins’ cash-in. After that Reigns and Lesnar fought on and off in 2016 and 2017 but their rivalry was officially restarted this year when Reigns won the Elimination Chamber match. Reigns and Lesnar’s Wrestlemania match this year was a little disappointing but their steel cage match at The Greatest Royal Rumble was good and ended in a controversial fashion giving Reigns every right to challenge Brock to a rematch. Roman needs to prove that he can beat Brock Lesnar. The urge to defy the odds and dethrone Lesnar has been brewing inside Reigns for years and he finally has the chance to face Brock one more time and this will be his last chance. The moment when they finally clash will be a moment to remember and Reigns will no longer be seen as an underdog trying his luck against the Beast but as a vengeful superstar who finally got his chance to get his hands on The Beast.
Many people are speculating that WWE will make the main event a triple threat match to make the fans happy. The third superstar will obviously be Mr. Money In The Bank, Braun Strowman. Braun has clearly stated that he doesn’t intend to wait for the perfect opportunity to cash-in and that he is just waiting for Brock to show up so that he can cash in his contract and become the champion. Braun isn’t the type of superstar who will just wait for his opponent to get tired so he can cash in his contract but he is the type of guy who will insert himself into the main event before the match even starts. This move makes a lot of sense as fans really like Braun Strowman and enjoy every segment he is a part of these days so inserting him into the match will satisfy the fans and the match can go on smoothly.
If you watched Raw this week, Stephanie granted Owens a match against Braun at Summerslam with the stipulation that if Braun loses the match in any fashion (pinfall, submission, DQ or countout), then Owens will get Braun’s Money In The Bank briefcase. If Owens somehow causes Braun to be counted out or get himself disqualified, then Owens will get the briefcase and will most probably cash in his contract after the Reigns vs. Lesnar match to win his 2nd Universal Championship. This scenario is most likely to happen considering that Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens has been advertised for September’s Hell in a Cell event so a Reigns vs. Owens rivalry makes sense if Owens ends up cashing in his Money In The Bank contract on Roman Reigns who would have just won the title from Brock Lesnar after an intense brawl making Owens’ job easy.
Whether you like Roman Reigns or not, you can’t deny that he has been a part of some interesting matches. His matches with Daniel Bryan, Braun Strowman, Bobby Lashley, The Miz etc. have been really good and he continues to improve both his mic skills and in-ring skills. Most of the matches involving Brock Lesnar these days are squash matches where Lesnar just suplexes his opponents throughout the match followed by his opponent gaining some momentum and getting upperhand on him for a short amount of time before Lesnar finally finishes him off with an F5. This match however will be different as it is not about Brock Lesnar vs. some guy in a random match. This is Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar and this is most probably Reigns’ last chance to battle Lesnar so he has to give it all in the ring and this is why I think that this match is going to be one of the most physical matches in a long time.
As discussed, we have already had 3 other Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar matches and all three of them have ended in different ways. This match must also end in a unique way and not just in a unique way, but in such a unique way that will make the fans happy or at least keep them invested. Most probably, there will be a cash in before, during or after the match but one other way to make this match memorable is if Roman Reigns finally turns heel during the match by showing signs of a vicious heel turn or after losing the match by attacking Kurt Angle or other officials. Reigns’ heel turn will be the most talked about thing in the professional wrestling business for years to come and it’s a risky move that creative needs to take sooner or later.
So here it is. This match doesn’t look so bad if you think clearly. We can see some huge developments during this storyline. Well, regardless of the outcome of this match, one thing is for sure that WWE will never be the same again. This match will serve as the gateway to a new era of WWE and be sure to witness that instead of just walking away when the match starts.
