5 Superstars Who Should Appear at Smackdown 1000

Smackdown Live is about to air its 1000th episode this October. Smackdown Live (previously called Smackdown) started airing in April 1999. In nearly 20 years, Smackdown Live has given us many memorable matches and segments. If you watched Raw’s 1000th episode back in 2012, you must be aware how well WWE celebrates such historic events.

Completing 1000 episodes is a big achievement, and it should be celebrated to its fullest. Superstars who were a big part of this show back in the day must appear too. Superstars like The Undertaker and Edge are reportedly confirmed to appear. However, there are many other Superstars too who made Smackdown a must-see show back in their day. Such Superstars must be a part of the 1000th episode in one way or the other. Here are 5 such Superstars.

5. Kurt Angle:

Kurt Angle returned to WWE in 2017 as the General Manager of Raw. While Kurt Angle was a prominent part of Raw in his first run, his time in Smackdown can’t be ignored. After the brand split in 2002, Kurt Angle became a part of Smackdown. Kurt Angle won 3 World Titles as a Smackdown Superstar in under 4 years.

Kurt Angle was drafted to Raw in 2005 but he ended up returning to the Blue Brand a few months later. Kurt Angle is currently on a “vacation” because of his disappointing job as a GM on Raw. He is rumored to return as a full-time performer to feud with Baron Corbin. Kurt will be returning to Raw but a one-night appearance on Smackdown Live during its 1000th episode special shouldn’t and mustn’t be ruled out. Kurt Angle even served as the GM of Smackdown for a few months in 2004.

4. Rey Mysterio:

If the rumors are true, expect Rey Mysterio to make his WWE return any time now. Rey Mysterio made his WWE debut in 2002 as a Smackdown Superstar. Rey Mysterio was a part of Smackdown from 2002 to 2008 and then from 2009 to 2011. As a Smackdown Superstar, Mysterio won the World Title and the Tag Titles multiple times. Rey Mysterio was a big part of Smackdown during the Ruthless Aggression era.

Currently, it’s unknown whether Mysterio will be returning to Raw, 205 Live or Smackdown Live. Mysterio could be sent to 205 Live to boost its viewership. No matter which Brand endorses the returning Rey Mysterio, he should be a part of Smackdown 1000. He had been a part of some amazing story-lines and matches on Smackdown. He has feuded with the likes of Eddie Guerrero, CM Punk, Batista, The Undertaker etc. on Smackdown.

3. Brock Lesnar:

Brock Lesnar made his main roster debut in 2002. He was drafted to Raw in the first ever draft. After the re-introduction of World Heavyweight Championship on Raw, Lesnar, the WWE Champion at that time, became exclusive to the Smackdown brand. Lesnar spent the remaining part of his 1st run on Smackdown as a main event Superstar.

Although Brock Lesnar is not a part of WWE at the moment and is training hard for his UFC return, a one-off appearance during the historic 1000th episode of Smackdown Live shouldn’t be ruled out. Lesnar was a big part of Smackdown. He would most likely return to WWE after his current UFC run is over. So, considering the fact that Lesnar has feuded with almost every top star of Raw including Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Braun Strowman etc. a shift to Smackdown Live could open the door to a lot of fresh feuds for The Beast Incarnate. So, an appearance at Smackdown 1000 followed by a confrontation with a future opponent like Daniel Bryan or AJ Styles would be great.

2. John Cena:

Although John Cena moved to Raw in 2005 and stayed there until 2016’s Brand Split, he received his first big break on Smackdown. John Cena worked excellently as a heel in 2003 but his face turn in November 2003 was the start of his mega push. Cena won the US title multiple times and ended up winning his first WWE Championship at Wrestlemania 21 by defeating JBL.

John Cena has been focusing on his Hollywood career for the past several months and has become a part-timer. John Cena even missed Summerslam this year for the first time in 15 years. However, if he can find time to appear at WWE Super Show-Down in Australia, he should also be a part Smackdown Live’s 1000th episode 10 days later. John Cena was one of the most entertaining Superstars on Smackdown in 2003 and 2004.

1. The Rock:

One doesn’t simply talk about celebrating 1000 episodes of Smackdown without mentioning The Great One, The Rock. The name of the show, Smackdown, is derived from one of The Rock’s catchphrases i.e. “Layeth the smack down”. The Rock was even the first pick for Smackdown brand in the inaugural draft back in 2002. The Rock even main evented the first episode of Smackdown.

Ever since leaving WWE to focus on his Hollywood career, The Rock has remained grateful to WWE. The Rock has continued to make appearances and wrestle sporadically. The Rock also appeared on the 15th Anniversary of Smackdown. The Rock will definitely appear at the historic 1000th episode of Smackdown Live, either live or via satellite. A confrontation with AJ Styles, who became a cornerstone of the Blue Brand following its resurgence in 2016, would be a must-see segment.
