Crawford made it clear he wants to play for the Philadelphia 76ers next season. The question is, does Philly have space for the guard? They have a lot of players at the guard position and creating minutes for Crawford will not be easy.
“I've always loved coach Brett Brown,” said Crawford. I've been on record. I've been a fan of his for years. He just needed talent, and now he has that. He added Ben Simmons, I love his game. I love Jojo [Joel Embiid]. They're both among my favorite players in the league to watch. Markelle [Fultz] is like a little brother to me. Obviously, he went to the University of Washington, and we talk every other day. J.J. Redick is like a brother to me, we've been through wars together, so there's so many things to love about Philadelphia for sure.”
That sounds like a player that is committed to playing in Philly. It is amazing to see Philadelphia become a team that everybody wants to play for now. They are the new force emerging in the NBA and are only going to get better.
As much as I would like to see Crawford play for the 76ers, I don’t think it will happen. There aren’t enough minutes to give to him in the guard position. Simmons, J.J. Reddick, Fultz, T.J. McConnell and Jerryd Bayless are the five guards on the roster. Unless Crawford wants to change his position, he won’t be playing much if he goes to Philly.
The one exception to that is if the 76ers incur an injury. Then, Crawford would help out a lot. But, I don’t think that will be the case. Last year, the 76ers played well even though they had a few injuries. They have depth and a great coaching staff that lets them play well even through unforeseen circumstances.
It would be nice to see Crawford ball out in Philly. Unfortunately, it isn’t going to happen. We can still dream though.
