The Golden State Warriors finally got DeMarcus Cousins back from injury and he played well. He ended up fouling out but not before showing how good the Warriors are with him. Do these Warriors have the best starting five in the history of the NBA?
Comparing this Warriors team to every team in the history of the NBA is a big challenge. And many people will not always agree. But everyone can admit that the Warriors are already one of the best teams in the history of the NBA. With the addition of Cousins, he may put them in a category all by themselves.
Stephen Curry is the best shooter in the history of the NBA. And Kevin Durant is a top two player in the NBA right now and one of the top 50 best players all time. Add Klay Thompson and Draymond Green and the Warriors are already one of the best teams all-time. Cousins was considered one of the best big man in the league very recently. His injury had derailed those talked but once he plays a bunch of games, he will be in that conversation again.
What makes Cousins so good is that he is very skilled. Other big men can't guard him and smaller opponents have no chance at all. On top of that, he is a great passer and a great rebounder. In the past few years, he has added a three-point shot. How will teams guard him when there are three other players on the team that already are more than enough to handle?
Usually, a team cannot sign five All-Stars because they don't have the salary cap to do so. Golden State has gotten some of its players to take less money than they could and Cousins signed to a one-year, $5.3 million contract. Cousins took a giant discount to play for the Warriors and that is how they assembled the best starting five.
The good news for people that hate the Warriors is that the team will break up after this season. One or even a couple players will leave. Cousins will ask for a lot of money and Durant will ask for a max contract.
It is sad that we won't get to see this roster play a whole season together. Everyone wants to see how dominant this roster can be and we have more than enough games to see just that.
