In today's preseason game against the Memphis Grizzlies, Anthony looked well. His shot was going in and he took a long two-pointer and apologized to the bench. This Rockets team doesn't like long two balls. Why shoot a long two when you can shoot a three-pointer?
Anthony scored 13 points and made three out of six three pointers. Shooting 50 percent from the three point line is good but it leaves me confused. Why were the Rockets crazy about getting Anthony when all they want him to do is shoot threes? Any role player could have done that. Luckily for the Rockets, they aren't paying Anthony much.
Imagine if they were. That would have been a horrible move. Somehow, it all worked out in the Rockets favor. They made it seem like Anthony was a key piece needed to win the NBA Finals. But he isn't. He is another role player and one that is bad on defense.
It doesn't make sense that the Rockets got a three point shooter that is a bad defender. They could have easily gotten a three point shooter that played good defense. But no, that would make too much sense. Instead, Anthony will be running to the three point line and playing bad defense.
Anthony hasn't had much success in his career and his lack of defense is one of the reasons. I think that the Rockets can survive the season with Anthony's poor defense but not in the playoffs. That will be something other teams will target. I remember last year in the playoffs when Stephen Curry kept attacking Ryan Anderson and scored easily. That problem will arise again and hurt the Rockets.
The Houston Rockets love the three ball and that will be their downfall. They traded defense for more offense and it may not even make a difference when it matters. Let's hope his defense is better this year or he may have another first round exit.
